llms.txt is a proposed convention: a plain-text file at the root of a website that gives AI systems a concise, structured summary of what the site is and where its important content lives, the way robots.txt addresses crawlers.
The file exists because most websites are built for human browsing: meaning is spread across navigation, images, and layout that a machine reader flattens badly. llms.txt is the site explaining itself in the form engines parse best, plain structured text.
It is one honest piece of a larger practice, not a magic switch. The same principle, machine-readable clarity, applies to the pages themselves: clean headings, direct answers, facts stated in text rather than trapped in graphics.
