The story in one paragraph

Buyers increasingly ask AI assistants, not search engines, what to buy, and each assistant answers with a short list of recommended brands. The CiteHawk AI Index measures those answers directly: every month, the 8 leading assistants are asked the question a real buyer asks across 185 categories (and 4 country editions where local answers differ), the verbatim answers are published as receipts, and brands are ranked by a fully published formula. Each refresh is frozen as an immutable record: what AI said, at a point in time, referenceable forever.

How to cite the Index

Cite the frozen record, not the live page. Records never change after publication, so your citation can never drift:

  • Every record carries the full provenance: the question asked, the model version behind every answer, capture timestamps, and every verbatim answer.
  • Every record has a machine-readable JSON download including the extracted data, so any score can be independently recomputed. Monthly editions also ship CSV.
  • The data is free to use with attribution (a link to the record). No permission needed; rankings are computed from AI responses only and are never for sale.

  • The live Index: current rankings, per-assistant splits, and the verbatim receipts on every category page.
  • Methodology: the complete published formula, the model policy, and the dated changelog of every methodology change.
