Engine disagreement
Definition
Engine disagreement is the extent to which different AI engines give different answers to the same question: naming different brands, ranking them differently, or contradicting each other on facts. It is a measurable property of the AI landscape, not an edge case.
In the CiteHawk AI Index’s July 2026 edition, the eight tracked engines failed to agree unanimously on the number-one brand in roughly 40 percent of categories. Disagreement at that scale means "what does AI say about us" has no single answer; it has eight.
Disagreement is also opportunity. An engine that has not yet settled on a favorite is persuadable, and the engines that already recommend you show which sources and arguments work.
