Share of voice in AI answers is the percentage of brand mentions across a set of AI responses that belong to one brand. If AI models name brands 200 times across your tracked questions and 30 of those mentions are you, your share of voice is 15 percent.
Share of voice is a market-shape number: it tells you how much of the conversation you occupy relative to everyone the AI models name, not just whether you appear. Two brands can both appear in 8 of 10 answers while one dominates every list and the other trails at the bottom.
It moves for two reasons: you get named more, or rivals get named less. That is why share of voice is best read next to mention rate. Mention rate answers "am I present"; share of voice answers "how much of the room do I take up".
