AI visibility
Definition
AI visibility is how often, how prominently, and how accurately a brand appears in the answers AI assistants give to relevant questions. It is the AI-era counterpart of search rankings: instead of a position on a results page, it is presence in the answer itself.
When a buyer asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity for a recommendation, the assistant replies with a short list of names and reasons. A brand is visible when it is one of those names, and invisible when it is not, no matter how well it ranks in traditional search.
AI visibility is measurable. Ask the questions buyers actually ask, across every major assistant, repeatedly over time, and record who gets named, in what order, with what supporting sources. That measurement is what CiteHawk does, and what this glossary describes the parts of.
