Prompts are the buyer questions CiteHawk asks the AI platforms on your behalf, every week. They are the input to everything else in the product, so they are the setting most worth getting right.

What it is

The Prompts surface lists every question you track, lets you add, edit, and retire them, and shows how each one is performing. Each row opens to the answers that question produced on each platform.

What makes a good prompt

A prompt is a question, not a keyword. “Best project management software for agencies” is a prompt; “project management” is not. The closer a prompt reads to something a real buyer would type into ChatGPT, the more the answer tells you.

Prompts fall into a few useful kinds:

• Discovery prompts ask for options without naming anyone. These are the ones that decide whether AI puts you on the shortlist at all.
• Branded prompts name you directly. These test what AI says about you when it is already talking about you, which is what Brand Health reads.
• Competitor prompts name a rival, or ask for a comparison. These are where you find out how AI frames you against the field.

A useful prompt set covers all three. Tracking only branded prompts makes your numbers look better than your actual market position.

Prompt discovery

Prompt discovery suggests new questions to track, drawn from what CiteHawk knows about your brand and market. Suggestions are proposals, not additions: nothing joins your tracked set until you approve it, since every prompt you add consumes metered capacity.

Prompts and markets

AI platforms answer the same question differently by country. Tracking a prompt in more than one market means asking it separately per market, so each additional market multiplies the prompts you consume rather than adding a rounding error. See markets in Billing and plans.

How prompts are metered

Each plan includes a number of prompt slots shared across your projects, and every tracked prompt in every market takes one. Plans differ by prompt volume, markets, and manual runs rather than by brand count. See Billing and plans for the numbers and the available add-ons.
